Abstract
1505284 Making mineral binder GOSUDARSTVEN VSESOJUZ PROEKT I N I INST TSEMENT PROMYSHLENNOS 9 Sept 1975 [11 Sept 1974(2)] 36961/75 Heading CIH [Also in Division H5] A mineral binder such as Portland cement is made by irradiating granular raw material with a beam of electrons while mixing the material and transporting it in a direction opposing the electron beam direction, In Fig. 2, the raw material is fed from 5 by means of a screw conveyor 3 to a "bell" 2 where it is mixed by a rotary device 8 and irradiated by an electron beam from a source 6 as it overflows the "bell". A conduit 13 transmits heat from the finished product to pre-heat the raw material. Gases evolved are drawn off through a pipe 11. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the raw material is fed through a rotating inclined drum (14) into which an electron beam is injected, The internal wall of the drum (14) can have scrolls (18) to mix the raw material.
