Abstract

1504774 Making rolls; rolling BRITISH STEEL CORP 4 Aug 1976 [4 Aug 1975] 32496/75 Headings B3A and B3M A roll for use in steel processing plants is produced by machining and heat treatment from round steel bar which has itself been rolled to shape. The roll may be for use in a mill or in a continuous casting machine. An example is given of taking rolled steel for stock, which is cut to size, rough machined with the required grooves, dressed to remove sharp corners, hardened in an oil both at 825‹ C., then tempered at 550‹ C. and finally finish machined. Grades of steel are given.
