Abstract

1504385 Humidifier J MANN & SON Ltd (I N Radley - Gardener) 9 Sept 76 [17 Sept 1975] 38128/75 Heading B1R [Also in Division F4] Air is cooled by passing it through apparatus wherein water evaporates. The apparatus may include an air heater. The air is drawn by a fan 27 through an annular porous member 16 which acts as a filter and also is wetted by water discharged from the edge of a rotating disc 25. The apparatus comprises a housing 10 with a base 11 and a hinged lid 12. The lid 12 includes a top 14 impervious sides (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), and porous sides in the form of foam sheet filter elements 13 through which air is drawn from the atmosphere. Inside the housing are the annular member 16 (which is of foam) and a further ring of foam 17. The water is supplied to the disc 25 via a pump 21 and nozzles 23. The cooled air discharges through ducting 29 having louvres 30 at its outlet. A heater element 31 is provided in the duct to allow heating of air if required. When using the heater, the water flow is usually turned off, the louvres 30 are closed and a cover 32 open. The apparatus may be mounted on a tractor or combine harvester cab for filtering and either cooling or heating, the air.
