Abstract

1504298 Assembling magnetic cores MAGNETIC & ELECTRICAL ALLOYS Ltd 22 May 1975 [29 May 1974] 23863/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] In apparatus and method for interleaving magnetic laminations in the construction of magnetic or transformer cores, four parallel non- magnetic rods 1, 2, 3, 4 (Fig. 1) extending between end plates 5, 6 are supported with 1, 2 fixed and 3, 4 horizontally slidable in slots 7, 8. Supports 2, 4 are rotatable by knobs 10 and are diametrically slotted with the slots staggered inter se. A magnetic flux generator underlying the supports has a laminated 3 limb core 11 (Fig. 3) and D.C. energizing coil 12 the lines of whose field lie in planes perpendicular to the supports. Unsymmetrical E-laminations are similarly oriented in substacks of equal numbers of laminations 13 and are hung on the pairs of supports 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively with the slots facing downwards. On energization the laminations separate and are distributed so that rotation of supports 2, 4 to face the slots upwards allow laminations to drop into successive slots for magnetic and gravitational retention. After de-energization supports 3, 4 are pushed towards supports 1, 2 until the sub-stacks formed therein interleave; after which supports 2, 4 are rotated to their original positions an the interleaved stacks are manually compressed and removed. Sub-stacks are formed (Fig. 4, not shown) by stacking laminations at random on an inclined stepped support carried by a vibrator, so that they become aligned into packs defined by the steps of the support.
