Abstract

1503607 Silage cutter L POTTIER 17 July 1975 [23 July 1974] 29976/75 Heading A4C [Also in Division B8] A machine for removing the contents from a silo comprises a chassis 1 mounted on three wheels 2, 3, 4 in a vertically adjustable manner, a rotatable vertical shaft 50 carrying a plurality of teeth 6 for cutting into the silage, and a screw conveyer 16 mounted beneath shaft 50 for conveying cut silage to a fan 19 which ejects the silage through a dispersing shoot, whereby the machine is manually propelled by operation of a pawl lever driving wheel 2 and is steered by a lever which turns wheel 3, wheel 4 being mounted idly, wheel 2 also being steerable for starting a new cutting face on the silage. The upper portion 23a of the shoot may be directed to aim the cut silage to a collection point by means of a handle 24. A cutter 18 is provided on the end of the screw shaft 15, and the first pitch of screw 16 adjacent cutter 18 is serrated to thereby provide a cutting action at the base of the silo. Vertical shaft 50 and teeth 6 are surrounded by casing except for the portion in cutting contact with the silage, the casing being adjustable to vary the cutting depth and acting to convey cut silage to the screw 16. Electric motors 12, 17 and 22 are provided to drive shaft 50, screw 16 and fan 19 respectively.
