Abstract

1502914 Positive clutches; positive detents ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG 27 June 1975 [29 June 1974] 27269/75 Headings F2C and F2E In a baulk ring synchronized positive clutch or brake for a change speed gear wherein an internally toothed sleeve 12 is axially slidable on a hub 11 into engagement with teeth 15, 16 carried by gears 17, 18 or the gear-box housing and coned friction synchronizing rings 13, 14 have limited circumferential movement relative to the hub 11 and are engageable with coned friction surfaces fast with the gears 17, 18 or housing, levers 20 pivoted on the hub 11 and engaging recesses 24 in the synchronizing rings 13, 14 ensure equal and opposite rotations of the synchronizing rings and thus prevent undesirable oscillations of the latter. As shown pivotal movement of the lever 20 is permitted by convex surfaces on the lever engaging recesses 19 in the hub 11. The ends of the lever 20 are also provided with convex surfaces 25 which engage the recesses in the synchronizing rings 13, 14. Alternatively the lever may have spherical sections at its centre and ends which engage cylindrical and part-spherical recesses in the hub and synchronizing rings respectively. In a further modification the lever is connected to the hub by pivot pins and the ends of the levers are bifurcate and co-operate with projections on the synchronizing rings.
