Abstract

1502681 Embedding fibreboard in concrete E B SMALL 12 March 1975 10359/75 Heading B5A A panel comprising concrete and hardboard or fibreboard is made by applying a skin of concrete 3 to a sheet 1 of hardboard (e.g.) that has been soaked in water, and embedding the edges of the sheet in further concrete 2. As described, the soaked sheet 1 is placed horizontally on a support M3 in a mould M2, with circular rods R that define bolt holes, reinforcing metal wire, rod or bar 6, and wooden fixing fillets. The skin 3 is skimmed on while the sheet 1 is still wet, and further concrete 2 is cast followed by vibration. Decorative aggregate 4 is laid by hand or machine and tamped in place with a timber piece. The hardboard 1 shrinks on drying to reinforce and prestress the concrete; bonding is improved by applying additives to the soaking water. Two panels can be joined together with the hardboards 1 in opposition and coated with plaster, to define a hollow block (see Fig. 3, not shown).
