Abstract
1502275 Naphthoquinone derivatives IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 May 1975 [18 June 1974] 26924/74 Heading C2C Novel morpholinonaphthoquinone sulphonates of formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are sulphonate groups or H, at least one being sulphonate, and when R 2 is sulphonate, both R 1 and R 3 are H; and wherein the morpholine ring (a) may carry C 1-4 and/or aryl substituents, are prepared by oxidizing a mixture of a 2-naphthol sulphonate and a morpholine with O 2 in the presence of a copper catalyst, e.g. cupric nitrate, chloride, sulphate, formate, acetate or stearate. The compounds of the above formula may be hydrolysed in aqueous acidic or alkaline solution, optionally in the presence of an alcohol to give 2 - hydroxy - 1,4 - naphthoquinone sulphonate of formula
