Abstract
1501752 Hauling G LOSSERANDMADOUX 24 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974 8 Nov 1974] 3293/75 Heading B8B A machine for hauling a cable C or other elongate body comprises a drive wheel 3 and an adjustable rotary pressing wheel 4, between which the cable passes for gripping and hauling, the cable being laterally guided by adjustable alignment rollers 8. The drive wheel 3 mounted on a drive shaft 2 comprises two coaxial hubs each carrying a peripheral circular sectioned pneumatic or solid elastic tyre, the two tyres providing a nip therebetween which acts also to laterally guide the cable C. The pressing wheel 4 is also formed with a circular sectioned pneumatic or solid elastic tyre and both the pressing and drive tyres have adhesion increasing surface formations. The pressing wheel 4 is rotatable on an axle 4<SP>1</SP> at the end of an arm 5 pivoted to the machine frame 1 at 1<SP>1</SP>, a toothed sector plate 5<SP>1</SP> being formed rigid with the arm 5. Adjustment of the wheel 4 to vary the pressing force on the cable 5, is effected by a pivoted lever 6 which upon normal upward movement of the free end thereof limited by a stop 1<SP>3</SP>, causes compression of a calibrated spring or block 7 while a pawl on the lever overrides the toothed sector. As soon as the lever is released, the pawl engages the toothed sector 5<SP>1</SP> and the spring or block 7 applies its stored energy to the arm to press the roller 4 on to the table C. The lateral guide rollers 8 are mounted on a pair of arms pivotally mounted in the frame 1 and symmetrically displaceable through a manual linkage arrangement to facilitate cables of various cross-sections. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, the pressing roller 13 having an integral toothed sector plate 13<SP>2</SP>, is manually pivoted about an axis 14 into contact with the cable, whereafter pressure is applied to the cable by the wheel which is further moved by a pawl and lever system 15, 16. The latter comprises a hand lever 16 pivoted at A to the frame 1 and being further pivoted to links 16<SP>3</SP> and 15 through pivots B and D, the link 15 having one end pivoted to the frame at 14 and pivotally carrying a pawl 15<SP>1</SP> part way along its length. With the lever 16 in the position shown, the gravity pivoted pawl 15<SP>1</SP> is in engagement with an adjustable stop 17 on the frame, to hold the pawl out of engagement with the sector 13<SP>2</SP>. Upon moving the end 16<SP>2</SP> of the lever 16 in the direction of arrow F, the link 15 rotates clockwise about the pivot 14 until the pawl 15<SP>1</SP> becomes free of the stop 17 and pivots into engagement with the sector teeth whereafter further movement of the lever 16 also presses the wheel 13 on to the cable C to a limited extent determined by an over centre position of the linkage pivots A, B, D. The lateral guide rollers 19 are mounted on crossed levers for symmetrical adjustment about an axle 21, the adjustment lockable frictionally by a lever 22.
