Abstract

1500101 Crimping tools; scissors PRESSMASTER Ltd 13 Jan 1976 [25 March 1975] 01170/76 Headings B4W and B4B A tool such as a pair of crimping pliers or scissors comprises first and second pivotally mounted jaws 12, 22 the first jaw 12 being extended beyond the pivot point 24 to provide a first handle 11 on which there is adjustably mounted a cam member 30a having a cam profile 31, the second jaw 22 also being extended as at 22a to provide a pivot point 23 for a second handle 21, the second handle carrying contact means 21b for following the cam profile. The cam profile is designed to provide a variable force transmission ratio from the handles to the jaws, the final closing movements of the. jaws corresponding to a greater angular movement of the handles than the initial movements. The cam plate is adjustable by means of an eccentric pivot 33 to provide adjustment of the final jaw spacing and is replaceably mounted in the U- section handle member 11. A ratchet and pawl mechanism 33a, 33b, 33c 34 is provided on the second jaw and handle members to ensure completion of the crimping stroke. The cam profile includes one or more "rest" positions for the roller 21b corresponding to different open positions of the jaws, a spring 35a urging the roller 21b against the cam profile. The tool may be portable, manually operated or "stationary" in which the actuating lever is operated manually or hydraulically.
