Abstract

The cable drawing machine has drive wheels over which the cable is positioned along its axis of symmetry and guided laterally. Contact between the cable and the wheels is ensured by rotary pressure heads. Each drive wheel consists of a rigid core containing the wheel's bearing, and a peripheral region of elastic material making contact with the cable. The elastic material has a roughened surface to grip the cable. The wheels are typically pneumatic tyres which have circumferential grooves or ribs to ensure a better cable grip. The rotary pressure heads are also typically pneumatic tyres carried by adjustable arms.
