Abstract
1501394 Hydraulic actuators; disc brakes GIRLING Ltd 6 March 1975 [9 March 1974] 10644/74 Heading F2E An hydraulic actuator of a disc brake comprises at least one piston 28 and cylinder assembly in which the cylinder is a through bore 26 in a caliper 12 of less thickness than the piston length and is closed by a cover 62 bolted, with an interposed sealing ring 68, to the caliper with a larger internal diameter than the piston 28. The disc-straddling caliper 12 has two of the above described actuators which actuate a pad 30 directly and a pad 32 by reaction, the backing plates of the pads sliding on surfaces 34, 36 of a carrier 10. The caliper is slidable relative to the carrier 10 by two bushes 46, 54 secured by bolts 48 to the caliper and slidable in bores in the carrier. The left hand (as shown) bolt 48 is a clearance fit in a hole 50 to allow for misalignment and a resilient sleeve 56 is retained on the right-hand bush 54 by a spring retainer 58.
