Abstract

1501380 Spare wheel carriers KENNEDY & KEMPE Ltd 21 Oct 1975 [13 Nov 1974] 49175/74 Heading B7J A spare wheel carrier arranged to move a wheel between a loading position and a stowed position comprises spaced angle members 32, 34 pivoted to a vehicle at 60 and receiving a wheel 10 therebetween, and a hub adaptor comprising members 38, 40 engaging the wheel nave and secured to the members 32, 34 by a single bolt 36. An adjustable pressure plate 56 prevents rotation of the wheel in the carrier. The angle members 32, 34 are bolted to brackets 18 to secure the carrier in its stowed position. The carrier is lowered by a cable and winch 71, 72 with the assistance of a spring 66. Each of the hub adaptor members 38, 40 comprises two discs spaced by spigots 48, the inner ends of the spigots being located in stud holes around the wheel nave. In a modification, the spacing between the two discs of the hub adapter members is adjustable. Two carriers may be mounted back-to-back on the vehicle to receive two spare wheels, Fig. 3 (not shown).
