Abstract
1500746 Spray-prodncers O DITLEVSIMONSEN 7 Oct 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 41094/75 Heading B2F A jet nozzle for connection to a hose, for example that of a fire engine, comprises an inlet pipe 1 and an outlet pipe 2 having a converging portion t, a straight portion x, a diverging portion y and an outlet portion z which may be straight or slightly converging, the smallest internal diameter d of converging portion t being smaller than the internal diameter of the end of the inlet pipe, said inlet pipe extending into the converging portion t thereby defining an annular chamber 6 and a narrow annular opening 7 between the inner wall of the outlet pipe and the outer wall of the inlet pipe. In use, water under pressure, for example from the mains supply, is introduced through the inlet pipe 1 and compressed air is introduced into the annular chamber 6 through an inlet 3, said air passing through the opening 7 to form an air film between the water stream and the inner wall of the outlet pipe. The inlet pipe has a Venturi constriction 8 and an annular flange 5 mounted in the rear end of the outlet pipe by means of screw threads, thereby providing for adjustment of the size of the opening 7 by longitudinal relative displacement of the pipes. Baffles 9 extending into the inlet tube and the annular chamber 6 impart whirling motion to the water stream and to the air stream. The nozzle may alternatively be used in industrial cleaning processes, for example for cleaning the tanks and holds of ships.
