1500694 Cooling liquids in bulk B A COOPER 22 May 1975 [6 March 1974] 9953/74 Headings F4H and F4S A container 24 which may comprise a cold storage compartment for machinery, or which may contain liquid (such as water, glycol, brine, oil or solvents) to be cooled for industrial use, is encircled by a jacket space 16 in which is a liquid cooled by refrigerant-carrying tubes 18, the container wall comprising relatively thin plate members which permit flexing of the wall, e.g. in the event that freezing occurs of the liquid in the jacket space 16. In the form shown the jacket space 16 and the container 24 are interconnected via a pipe 26, the same liquid being contained in the jacket and container and being cooled by the pipes 18, and a circuitous path for said liquid being provided by baffles 29 in the jacket space. A pipe 22 may as shown direct the inflowing liquid initially into the container 24, cooled liquid being discharged via an outlet 28 from the jacket space 16.
