Abstract

1500183 Fusible cut outs LITTELFUSE Inc 7 Jan 1975 [14 Jan 1974] 627/75 Heading H2G An electrical fuse comprises a one piece planar fuse element having spaced parallel contact blades 8 interconnected by a fusible link 20 of reduced cross-section. Apertures 26, 28 may be provided for the attachment of the element within an insulating and supporting housing 6. Wings 10 may be provided to the contact blades to indicate a high current rating, and extensions 18 may be provided for access through apertures 42 in the wall of the housing to test the continuity of the fuse. The housing 6 or part of it may be transparent and may include a lens 38<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 11, not shown) for observation of the fuse link. A method of making the fuse includes the steps of preparing a strip of fuse metal with areas of reduced thickness 20, by milling and/or pressing; stamping so as to part-form a series of fuse elements, and severing fuse elements in turn from the end of the strip with or without a housing fixed in place on each element. The width at 30b of the body may be increased around the fusible link to allow circulation of cooling air, and overhanging shoulders 40 may be provided on the rear face for ease of insertion and removal of the fuse into a mounting panel.
