Abstract

1499692 Sawing M/C guard PEDRAZZOLI SpA 20 Jan 1976 [7 Jan 1975] 02166/76 Heading B5L [Also in Division F2] A cutting or cropping circular saw 6, which is carried by a machine head 4 pivotably movable, for cutting a workpiece 3, about a pivot 5 of a ring 1 adjustably turnable on a machine bed 1a, for varying the angle of cut, is surrounded by an articulated guard casing formed of two guard covers 10, 16 which telescope together in a circular manner during the cutting operation to substantially enclose the saw 6 at all stages of the cutting operation to provide maximum safety for the machine operation. The first guard cover 10 is turnably supported by a sleeve 11 journalled on the M/C head 4 and is connected via a pin 14 to one end 18 of a connecting rod 17 the other end 19 of which is hinged to a pin 20 carried by an arm 21 on the ring 1, the second guard cover 16 being fast on the connecting rod 17. In the initial machine loading position of Fig. 1 the articulated guards 10, 16 cover all but a small portion of the saw 6, a small opening being arranged in the underpart of the articulated guard, clear of the operator, for release of swarf chips and cooling fluid, the latter of which is supplied via a cock 24 on the cover 10. As the saw 6 is pivotally lowered to cut the workpiece 3 clamped in a vice 2, the connecting rod turns and relatively retracts the guards 10, 16 to allow the cutting operation to be completed whilst maintaining maximum security i.e. coverage of the saw 6. For servicing the M/C, the pin 20 may be removed whereby the guards 10, 16 can be readily displaced (Fig. 4) for easy replacement of the saw 6. The connecting rod 17 may be replaced by one or more ropes, chains, springs and/or gravitational effect or by a combination of these things or by a rack and pinion or a pneumatic or hydraulic piston/cylinder unit, all not shown.
