Abstract

149,946. Budd Manufacturing Co., E. G., (Assignees of Weaver, P., executrix of Weaver, C. B.). Aug. 20, 1919, [Convention date]. Rivets.-Clinch rivets for securing upholstery pads to steel panels of motor-vehicle doors comprise a head 7 with integral prongs 6 which are formed as shown in Fig. 3. The rivets are pressed or drawn from a blank shown in Fig. 1, stamped from sheet metal, an opening 12 being punched centrally through the head 7. The edge 11 of the body A of the blank is bent up to form a raised rim. The rivet is passed through a hole in the upholstery and panel members 13, 14, Fig. 5, respectively. A tool 15 is inserted through the hole 12, forcing the prongs apart, shoulders 10 on the prongs engaging over the edges of the panel.
