Abstract

1499208 Microtomes SOUTH LONDON ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT CO Ltd 29 March 1976 [27 March 1975] 12959/75 Heading G2J In a microtome the blade is mounted such that it may be moved in a direction parallel to its cutting edge. As shown in Fig. 1 a sledge microtome comprises a base 11 on which independently longitudinally adjustable pillars 10 are mounted. Screw threaded shanks 12a, 12b on bolts 13a, 13b, engage T nuts 14 to secure the pillars to the base while also clamping a circular rod 5 to the pillars. With the bolts 13a, 13b loosened the rod may be rotated by knob 20 and slid axially. The knife blade is clamped to the rod by clamp 3. Axial adjustment of the rod (and hence the blade) allows a fresh unused portion of blade to be use. The blade may be set to the diagonal with respect to the base by staggering the pillars. A shield bar 9 is supported by end-plates 8 which in turn are attached to shaft 7. Shaft 7 is pivoted in the clamp 3.
