Abstract
1499201 Spray-producers LONGWOOD MACHINE WORKS INC 3 Jan 1975 [11 Jan 1974] 258/75 Heading B2F An atomiser suitable for the control of humidity and having a liquid discharge nozzle 20, a liquid flow chamber 30 communicating with said nozzle, and means for discharging air under pressure around said nozzle to aspirate liquid from the flow chamber and atomise the liquid as it leaves the nozzle, is provided with a cleaning rod 32 and a valve comprising a frusto-conical component 96 formed by a portion of the cleaning rod and a stationary annular component 98 disposed in the body of the atomizer, said cleaning rod being movable between a position, Fig. 2, in which the cleaning rod is withdrawn from the nozzle and the valve is open so that liquid introduced at 92 passes through the valve into the flow chamber and thence to the nozzle, and a position, Fig. 1, in which the valve is substantially closed and the forward end of the cleaning rod is disposed within the outlet of the nozzle. In the latter position the nozzle is sealed by the engagement of a sealing component 106 on the cleaning rod against a cup-shaped insert 108, said insert being held in position by a compression spring 114 which also holds the stationary valve component 98 in position. Air is supplied to the atomiser through a port 58 and passes through a lateral passage 60 and a longitudinal passage 62 to an annular chamber 64 and thence through apertures 24, 26 to an annular outlet orifice 18, the aperture 26 extending obliquely to impart a swirling motion to the aspirating air. The cleaning rod is reciprocated by means of a spring-loaded piston 36 to which the end of the cleaning rod is attached, movement of the piston being effected by the application of air under pressure through passages 62', Fig. 1, or 62" Fig. 2. Movement of the piston is limited by a stop screw 54 which is adjustable so that the tapered portion of the valve can be disposed at any selected position with respect to the stationary component 98. Bleed ports 72 and 88 are provided for the removal of any air which leaks past the piston and any air or liquid which leaks past the cleaning rod.
