Abstract

1499107 Furnace walls WELLMANN INCANDESCENT Ltd 15 July. 1975 [17 July 1974] 31636/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division H5] An electrically heated furnace has a series of vertically spaced rows of refractory members secured to the furnace shell, and blankets of loose, compressible, randomly oriented thermally insulating refractory fibres secured to the furnace walls to extend between the rows of refracting members, electric heating elements being supported from the rows of refracting members. Refractory blocks 12 are held in place by hook bolts 16 and bars 17 engaging two adjacent blocks 12, and loose refractory wool 18 is held against blocks. 19 of refracting fibres by studs 20 welded to the furnace shell and washers 22. The blocks 19 are held in place by washers 21. Ledges 15 welded to the furnace shell support the refractory blocks 12, which are spaced from the shell by asbestos mill board. Hooks 28 having obtuse angled shanks 25 engage bores in the blocks 12, and support, serpentine sheathed elements 23.
