Abstract

1499104 Retarding sheets STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd 30 April 1975 [24 May 1974] 23434/74 Heading B8R Sheets cut from a web are retarded on entry into a receiver by passage between a freely rotatable roller 46 and a rotary member 44 which is arranged to engage the sheets during only part of each revolution and which is driven at a cyclically varying angular velocity. The member 44 comprises overlapping sheet engaging segments 70 and 72 which are adjustably clamped to drive shaft 62. The adjustable mounting enables the leading edge 74 of segment 72 to be positioned relative to the cyclic drive so that it engages the sheet at a point when it is moving at the same peripheral speed as the sheet. The segment 70 may then be adjusted to give the required final speed of the sheet just before it breaks contact with the sheet. The drive may be by epicyclic gearing.
