Abstract

1498930 Harvesters DEERE & CO 29 July 1976 [29 July 1975] 31706/76 Heading A1F A double combine or other harvester comprises two harvester units 12, 14 arranged side-by-side, braced together and supported by ground wheels 52, harvesting means at the front of each unit and adjacent each other for harvesting double the width of crop harvestable by either harvesting means alone, and a container 16 for collecting harvested crop from both units disposed in a space between the two units behind the harvesting means. This arrangement provides a harvester with a large working width and a collecting container with a low centre of gravity when filled. The units may be specially constructed units, or be modified combine harvesters each of which is capable of individual use. As shown the units 12, 14 are interconnected by front and rear telescopic braces 22, 24. The rear brace comprises rectangular tubes 26, 28 fast with the units slidably receiving a bar 30; the front brace comprises elements 32, 34 on the units sliding into a central tube 36 on which a driver's platform and cabin is provided. The grain tank 16 is held in its working position by a hydraulically controlled support which can be lowered until the tank is supported on the ground by wheels 17 and abutments on the support are clear of the tank which can then be run out of the machine. For transport purposes the two units can be moved closer together after the grain tank has been removed and the reaping platforms have been removed or pivoted to vertical positions. The units are moved together by hydraulic jacks associated with the telescopic braces, the wheels of at least one unit being pivotable about vertical axes to permit this movement, alternatively auxiliary wheels or skids are lowerable to support the unit being moved. As an alternative the units could be coupled in tandem for transport purposes. In a modification the collecting container can be raised above its working position and swung to a position from which the harvested material can be poured into another vehicle.
