Abstract

1498802 Controlling vehicle suspension height CAM GEARS Ltd 17 Jan 1975 [13 Feb 1974] 06481/74 Heading B7D In a vehicle suspension levelling valve, Fig. 2, comprising a valve spool 10 slidable in a housing 11 for controlling fluid flow to and from a piston and cylinder device connected in series with a suspension spring, and a flexible lever 17 for connection to an unsprung part to actuate the valve, there are provided in the housing 11 at opposite ends of the spool 10 fluid damping chambers 25. The chambers 25 are interconnected by a passage 26 including a frusto-conical cavity 27 in which a conical screw-threaded plug 28 forms an adjustable flow restriction by means of which the damping action can be regulated. The lever 17 is secured in a bush 32 which is pivotally mounted in an extension 11a of the housing 11 by means of a split seating secured by a screwed cover 35. The end of the lever 17 extends into a bush 29 rotatably mounted in a transverse bore 30 in the spool 10. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6, the valve has a rotary spool 10a and the flexible lever 17 extends through a diametrical hole in the spool. The lever also extends through a bush 32 rotatably mounted in a damping piston 42 disposed in a cylindrical bore 43 which is closed by plugs 44, 45 to form damping chambers 46, 47. A clearance between the piston 42 and the bore 43 allows interchange of fluid between the chambers 46, 47 and a reservoir chamber 49.
