Abstract

1498611 Electrical connector F R BONHOMME 24 June 1976 [4 July 1975] 26373/76 Heading H2E A contact member of a zero-insertion force connector has sections having different resilient properties such that contact is made with a corresponding contact of a mating connector with a wiping action by rotation of a control member. In Fig. 1 the upper contact is in the open position end 4a of contact 4 being engaged in a slot in control member 5 which is rotated to make contact, as shown by the lower contact. Shoulder 15 locates the contact member in the housing, the contact being retained by a twist at 4d. The more resilient portion may be provided by forming it to an S-shape, Fig. 2, or other suitable shape, or by making it, thinner than, narrower than, disposed at an angle to the less resilient part, or by providing the less resilient path with reinforcing such as a helical wire or resilient sheath, or by soldering, or by a combination of methods.
