Abstract

1498204 Silylating organic hydroxy and amino compounds DOW CORNING Ltd 12 Nov 1976 [21 Nov 1975] 47916/75 Heading C3S Organic compounds having at least one -OH and or -NH- group attached to carbon are silylated by contacting them simultaneously with (i) a silazane (R 3 Si) 2 NH and/or silylamine R 3 SiNR<SP>1</SP> 2 , wherein R is a C 1-8 hydrocarbyl radical and R<SP>1</SP> is H or a C 1-8 alkyl radical, and (ii) a silyl sulphate (R 3 Si) 2 SO 4 . Preferably (i) is in molar excess of (ii): a 2 : 1 molar ratio will be approximately neutral. In the examples butanol, benzoic acid, 2 : 6-di-sec-butyl-phenol, penicillin G and 2-imidazolidinone were mixed, with or without subsequent heating, with (Me 3 Si) 2 NH or Me 3 SiNEt 2 and (Me 3 Si) 2 SO 4 , the molar ratio of substrate to silicon compounds being 2 : 1 or 1 : 1 using (Me 3 Si) 2 NH and 3 : 1 using Me 3 SiNEt 2 , and of (i) : (ii) being 2 : 1, or in later examples up to 1000 : 1.
