Abstract

1509691 Disilyl hydantoins; silylation process DOW CORNING Ltd 17 Feb 1977 [20 Feb 1976] 6719/76 Heading C3S Compounds containing -OH or -NH groups attached to C or Si are silylated by reaction with a compound wherein each R is H, CH3 or C6H5 and R<1> is a C1-10 hydrocarbyl radical. The compounds of Formula I in which at least one R is not H are claimed per se. In Example 1 hydantoin is heated with hexamethyldisilazane in CH2Cl2 at 40‹ C. i.p.o. H2SO4; the product is used to silylate 2 : 6-di-sec-butyl-phenol. In Examples 2-4 dimethylhydantoin is heated with hexamethyldisilazane in toluene at 120‹C.; the product is used to silylate n-octanoic acid, 2- ethyl-hexanoic acid, and n-octanol.
