Abstract

1497693 Anchoring nuts SHUR-LOK INTERNATIONAL SA 11 Oct 1976 [20 Oct 1975] 43002/75 Heading F2H In an assembly comprising a fastener 1 inserted in a through bore 8 in a panel 2, the fastener having at one end an external radial flange 9 accommodated within a counterbore 10 at the corresponding end of the bore 8 and at the other end a threaded blind bore 5 for receiving a threaded member by which 5 for receiving a threaded member 18 by which attachments to the panel may be made, the assembly is such that when an increasing tensile force is applied to the fastener 1 by loading loading the threaded member 18 in a direction A-tending to withdraw the latter from the blind bore 5, the flange 9 undergoes plastic deformation before the panel is damaged. The assembly is intended for GRP panels in ships. As shown, the fastener 1 has external knurling 6 and is a force-fit in the bore 8. An annular annular groove 7 is pressed into the external surface of the fastener to deform the thread in the bore 5 to make it self-locking. The part of the counterbore 10 not occupied by the fastener flange 9 is filled with a sealing compound 12. To assist in applying the compound 12, a selfadhesive disc 13 having a tab 14, an injection hole 15, and a breather hole 16, is stuck over the counterbore while the compound is injected and cured. The disc is then removed, using the tab 14.
