1497279 Automatic control; automatic control of yarn speed NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 27 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 47214/74 Headings G3N and G3R [Also in Division D1] An electromagnetically actuated knitting machine 18 controlled by signals from an information store e.g. of a computer 14 has a yarn measuring device 22 which measures the length of yarn used or its speed by placing, and subsequently detecting, electrostatic charges on the yarn, and a comparator 24 which compares the measured length or speed with an expected value. The difference may be used to actuate an alarm 28 or may be fed back to control the yarn feed of the knitting machine 18. References 10 and 12 represent an input data terminal to the computer 14 store via a visual display unit.
