Abstract

1508430 Measuring length NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 16 Oct 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 45221/74 Heading G1N A yarn length measuring apparatus is for use with or includes a transformer-amplifier unit 40 applying electric charge to each of four yarns 14, 15, 16, 17 via an assembly 12 of charge-applying electrodes, each yarn passing through a respective detector-electrode assembly 24, 25, 26, 27, acting to cause the application of charge to all the yarns whenever a charge is detected by one of the detector assemblies. Counter 44 counts pulses from gate 38 to assembly 12 each time the selected detector assembly detects a charge on the associated yarn. At the end of a given number of pattern repeats of a knitting machine with which the apparatus is used, a switch 47 causes the count in counter 44 of the appropriate yarn length to be stored in memory 48 and the counter is cleared. A signal is then fed to gate 38 to cause it to cease passing signals from one detector assembly, say 26, and to commence passing signals from another assembly, say 27, and so on until measurements are stored for all four yarns. The detector and applicator assemblies may be as described in 1219666 (see Division G4).
