Abstract

1497203 Epoxide modified novolacs SCHENECTADY-MIDLAND Ltd 16 Jan 1976 [28 Jan 1975 5 May 1975] 01671/76 Headings C3B C3R and C3P Resins, useful as tackifiers in rubber stocks, are prepared by reacting a novolac resin prepared from a (C 4-16 alkyl)phenol and a mono- or polyepoxide having epoxide equivalent (EE) 58-4000. The product has EE#2000. Examples relate to the reaction of novolacs from t-octyl- and dodecyl-phenol with diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol A, diglycidyl esters of tetrahydrophthalic acid, an epoxy novolac resin, bis(3,4 - epoxy - 6- methyl - cyclohexylmethyl)- adipate, styrene oxide and propylene oxide. The resins may be used as tackifiers in styrene butadiene, ethylene - propylene - diene chlorinated butyl, butyl and natural rubbers.
