Abstract

1496828 Abrasive tools LIDKOPINGS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AB 6 June 1975 [7 June 1974] 24452/75 Heading B3D A spindle 1 for a grinding wheel 3 comprises at least one helical ridge 7 and is a push fit in the grinding wheel whereby the or each ridge engages an inner peripheral surface of the wheel such that, in normal use, rotation and axial movement of the wheel relative to the spindle is prevented. The grinding wheel is intended for machining the bore of a workpiece, such as a bearing ring 4 and has a bush 6 of plastics or other deformable material for engagement by the ridges 7 which have a helix angle between 30 and 75 degrees. Only the ridges 7 on the bolt engage the bush 6 so as to reduce the risk of splitting the grinding wheel which abuts a flange 8 on the spindle. When the wheel is worn, a fork (9, Fig. 2, not shown) is moved axially away from the spindle to push the wheel off the spindle, a new wheel carried by a support being guided axially onto the spindle. The spindle and/or grinding wheel are free to rotate as the wheel is pushed into the spindle.
