Abstract

1496032 Aerials WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 28 Jan 1975 [31 Jan 1974] 3561/75 Heading H4A An antenna comprising a main reflector and smaller subreflector in an offset Cassegrain-type arrangement having a focus on the antenna axis has both reflectors displaced from the antenna axis 50 and disposed on opposite sides of a notional plane 59 and has a plurality of feeds 54, 55, 57, 58 (Fig. 6C) located about and displaced from the focus; the reflectors being arranged so that a point source at the focus would provide a beam whose axis impinges on the centre 60 of the main reflector 52. In the embodiment shown the feeds 54-58 are in an approximately straight line (Fig. 5, not shown) through the feed 56 at the focus, the subreflector 53 being enlarged (Fig. 6C) to compensate for spillover loss that would otherwise result. All the beam axes are directed on to the reflector centre 60. The feeds may be displaced in other directions located approximately in the focal plane. The enlarged subreflector 53 may deviate from a true hyperboloid portion and the main reflector may require reshaping from the true paraboloid portion. The antenna may be mounted on azimuth and elevation controls (Fig. 5, not shown.
