1495658 Organotin maleate mixtures CIBAGEIGY AG 30 Oct 1975 [13 Nov 1974] 44856/75 Heading C2J [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises (a) a mixture of compounds generically represented by the formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> are C 1-12 alkyl or benzyl, R<SP>1</SP> is C 2-12 alkylene or a polyethylene glycol radical of 2-6 units, Ra and Ra<SP>1</SP> are linear or branched C 12-18 alkyl or alkenyl radicals and n is a mean value for a rational number greater than 0 and less than 2, and (b) a modification of such a mixture in which up to one third of the terminal maleic acid half-ester groups or are replaced by monocarboxylic acid radicals of formula R 2 -COO- where R 2 is linear or branched C 11-17 alkyl or alkenyl. The mixtures may be prepared by initially reacting diols HO-R<SP>1</SP>-OH and alcohols RaOH, optionally together with Ra<SP>1</SP>OH, with maleic anhydride and then reacting the resultant half-esters, optionally together with acids R 2 -COOH, with (R) 2 SnO and optionally (R<SP>1</SP>) 2 SnO while removing the water of reaction that forms, usually by distillation under normal pressure or under vacuum. The mixtures are useful as stabilizers for vinyl chloride polymers.
