Abstract

Aromatic uretdione diisocyanate disulphonic acids, which are generally crystalline, are obtained in a smooth, virtually quantitative reaction by reacting diisocyanates of the formula II with pure, dilute or complexed sulphur trioxide with formation of well-defined compounds of the formula I by sulphonation and dimerisation. In the formulae, the symbols are as defined in Claim 1. The compounds obtained are suitable as reactants for polyols and/or polyamines for the synthesis of urethane- or urea-containing plastics by the isocyanate polyaddition process. <IMAGE>
