Abstract

Dimer of 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate (I) is prepd by dimerisation of (I) at 15-60 degrees C in the presence of 2-5 wt. % (w.r.t (I)) trialkyl phosphite as catalyst, opt in melt but pref. in an inert solvent. Dimer is used for vulcanising polyurethane rubbers and for bonding polyester cord with rubber. High yields of high quality prod are obtd.
