Abstract

1494195 Toothed gearing AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 10 Feb 1975 [8 Nov 1973] 51892/73 Heading F2Q [Also in Division B3] A bevel wheel assembly comprises a bevel wheel 11 having an axially extending boss 16 on which a second bevel wheel 12 is mounted and secured by welding 24 of varying axial depth. The inner end of the weld may define a sinusoidal path. For welding, the bevel wheel assembly is mounted for rotation and an electron gun is supported so that its electron beam 23 is directed at an annular groove defined by a recess 22 and an annular groove 21. As the wheel assembly is rotated, the intensity of the electron beam 23 is varied. Alternatively, the intensity of the beam is maintained constant and the electron gun is reciprocated axially.
