Abstract
1493880 Pouring molten metals FLOGATES Ltd 26 Feb 1976 [8 March 1975] 9740/75 Heading F4B The pour opening of a vessel for molten metal comprises a gas permeable nozzle tube 14 with a gas impermeable outer metal jacket 35 which defines an annular manifold space 36. The bottom ends of the jacket 35 and nozzle tube 14 abut a stationary orifice plate 16 of a sliding gate valve. A conduit 37 supplies gas to the manifold 36 to form a gaseous envelope about the nozzle 14. The gas diffuses inwardly through the nozzle wall to the flow passage 30 while some of the gas flows directly to the passage 30 by way of a cross bore 38. The vessel may be used for pouring aluminium killed steels and the gas may be of the inert type such as argon or nitrogen. Alternatively oxygen or propane gas may be supplied. In a modified arrangement, gas flow to the passage 30 may be augmented by a plurality of transverse passages similar to passage 38 over the whole length of the nozzle 14.
