Abstract

1493542 Enzymic hydrolysis of lactose to glucose and galactose R J REYNOLDS TOBACCO CO 18 Nov 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 47520/75 Heading C2S [Also in Division C3] Lactase having an improved thermal stability which has been made by cultivating an organism belonging to the genus Bacillus in a nutrient medium containing lactose, is used for hydrolysing lactose to yield glucose and galactose. Example C describes the hydrolysis of a sweet whey feedstock by passage through a column of dried aggregate particles following cultivation, which are rehydrated with 50% lactose solution buffered at pH 7À0 with 0À05 M phosphate.
