Abstract
1492866 Pulverulent foodstuffs MAZETTI AB 26 Feb 1975 [27 Feb 1974] 7940/75 Heading A2B A dry pulverulent foodstuff or animal feed which is admixed with liquid prior to consumption is made by coating a solid component with an atomized liquid component which is an emulsion of a fat, a proteinaceous liquid and an emulsifier and drying the coated product at 50-200‹C, the emulsified fat between deposited onto the solid, which is in turn surrounded by a dried layer of the proteinaceous continuous phase of the emulsion. The proteinaceous liquid is preferably skimmed milk, sodium caseinate solution, isolated soy protein soln or whey and the solid component is mashed potato flakes, a gruel powder, soup powder, sauce powder, dessert powder, nutrient powder, cream substitute powder or calf fodder. An additional carbohydrate or proteinaceous material may be added to the liquid component e.g. soya, meal, tomato puree, yeast and dried cocoa powder. The process may be effected in a spray drier, introducing the components separately, or in a fluidised bed by spraying the liquid component on to a bed of the solid component, or by spraying the liquid onto the surface of a heated drum upon which the solid component is drying, as in the production of mashed potato flakes.
