Abstract

1492773 Gas sampling device J R BOEHRINGER 3 Dec 1974 52286/74 Heading G1B A gas sampling device comprises a crushable tube 4 having a puncturable segment 7, an opening closed by removable closure 1, 2, 3 and optionally a piston 15, Fig. 1 (not shown) snugly fitting within the tube and removable through the opening, the tube, the closure and the piston all being composed of material substantially unaffected by and non-gas absorbent with respect to any gas which the tube is intended to contain. The material may be aluminium, zinc, lead, tin, or tin-lead alloy. In the embodiment shown, the closure comprises deformable metallic facing 3, retaining collar 2 and closure member 1 which when tube 4 contains gas is forced downwardly to crush the tube and so force gases from it when puncturable segment 7 is pierced by sharp tipped tubular member 12. Member 12 is mounted in block 8 which includes resilient bushing 8a and a passage 9a for exhaustion of gas from around member 12 before tube 4 is pierced. Block 8 is mounted against spring 13 held by second block 11. In use, the closure is removed to allow collection of the sample to be tested in tube 4, then tube 4 is reclosed and mounted in block 8. Inert gas is passed through tube 9a, then tube 4 is forced towards block 11, the segment 7 is pierced by the needle and the gas sample passes through connection 14 to gas analyzing apparatus.
