Abstract

1492074 Container end panels NATIONAL CAN CORP 15 Aug 1975 [26 Aug 1974] 34088/75 Heading B8D In a container end panel which has a flat central panel portion 12 connected to a peripheral seaming flange 14 by an annular bead 22 and an annular channel having an arcuate bottom portion 16 and upstanding wall portions 20, 28 and 30, the wall portion 28 extends at less than 4 degrees to a perpendicular P2 to the central panel portion 12 and the wall portions 20 and 30 extend at angles C and D greater than 4 degrees to said perpendicular, P2. The wall portion 28 preferably extends at 0 to 3 degrees, and most preferably at 0 degrees, to said perpendicular. The angles C and D preferably lie in the ranges of 12 to 15 degrees and 14 to 16 degrees, respectively, and are most preferably 15 degrees. The cross-sectional radius R2 of the annular bead 22 is in the range of 0À025 to 0À030 inch and is most preferably 0À025 in. The cross-sectional radius R1 of the arcuate bottom portion 16 is in the range of 0À028 to 0À034 inch, most preferably 0À023 inch. The annular bead 22 is connected to the central panel 12 by an annular arcuate portion 24 which has a cross-section radius in the range of 0À018 to 0À022 inch most preferably 0À018 inch. The dimensions L 1 to L 4 indicated in Fig. 2 may be in the ranges 0À065 to 0À075 inch, 0À100 to 0À110 inch, 0À164 to 0À174 inch and 0À080 to 0À094 inch, respectively, and most preferably 0À65 inch, 0À1 inch, 0À168 inch and 0À09 inch, respectively.
