Abstract
1328070 Can ends ETABS J J CARNAUD & FORGES DE BASSE-INDRE 17 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 23136/72 Heading B8D In a can end having a series of panels 16, 17 extending between a planar central panel 18 and an upwardly-directed convex bead 15, which is spaced inwardly of an upstanding chuck side wall 13 whose seaming flange extends in part in a horizontal plane P, the panel portions 16 slope upwardly and radially inwardly and the panel portions 17 slope downwardly and radially inwardly from the top of the panel portions 16. The construction produces a reduced centre panel inset distance F in comparison with known can ends wherein the panel portions 16 slope downwardly and radially inwardly, Fig. 3 (not shown), and is said to permit gradual outward can end deformation when a food can undergoes heat sterilization. Specific examples in terms of chuck wall diameter are given for the number of panels, the centre panel inset, chuck wall bottom width, and the radii of various connecting fillets.
