Abstract

1491956 Sulphonated elastomer/polyolefin compositions EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 24 Oct 1975 [18 Nov 1974 (2)] 43804/75 Heading C3P Compositions comprise (A) a major proportion by weight of a sulphonated elastomer containing 0À2 to 20 mole per cent of sulphonic acid groups at least 95% of which are combined with cations selected from ions of Group I and II metals, aluminium, antimony, lead and organic amines and (B) a minor proportion by weight of a crystalline polyolefin having a number average molecular weight of at least 2,000 and a degree of crystallinity of at least 25%. Preferred elastomers are EPDM and butyl rubbers. The compositions may contain plasticizers, other polymers, crystalline waxes and conventional compounding ingredients and may be moulded to form shoe soles, sheets, fibres, containers, automobile sight shields, flexible bumpers and grill parts. Examples describe compositions of sulphonated ethylene/ propylene/ethylidene norbornene terpolymers neutralized with zinc, magnesium and barium ions and polyethylene, polypropylene and crystalline ethylene/propylene copolymer.
