1491431 Child-proof closure A COSTA 19 Feb 1976 06646/76 Heading B8T A child-proof closure and container combination comprises a container 11 with a neck 13 provided with a rib 15 therearound, the rib 15 having a flattened portion 15a, and a closure 12 comprising a top wall 20, a resilient skirt 21 depending from the top wall and including a plurality, preferably three, inwardly protruding lugs 32 circumferentially spaced on the inner wall of the skirt and engaging, in the closed position, under the rib 15 of the container neck and a plurality of circumferentially spaced, upwardly protruding lugs 27 which serve to retain a sealing, moisture absorbent liner 30 in the closure. To open the container, the closure is rotated relative to the container to align one of the lugs 32 with the flattened portion 15a of the rib 15, and an upward movement on the closure causes the held lugs 32 to pass over the rib. The alignment of the lug and flattened portion is indicated by arrows 16 and 24a on the neck and closure top wall respectively. The closure may include an outwardly projecting portion 24 on the skirt by which upward pressure may be applied to the closure to remove the closure. A rib 14 around the neck 13, below the rib 15 is provided with a downwardly sloping top surface 14a to facilitate access to the portion 24 during removal. The arrangement of the lugs 32 and rib 15 is such that the closure can be applied simply by axial pressure to snap the lugs over the rib, but the closure cannot be readily removed without alignment as mentioned above.
