Abstract

149,016. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). May 16, 1917. Turbines.-Turbine blades are made from sheet stock by bending the stock transversely to form the working face of the blade, and removing metal from the back to form sharpened edges. The stock may be bent by the shaped rolls 6, 7 and the sides trimmed to form the edges by a milling cutter 18 while the bent stock rests with its working face in contact with a curved projection 12 on a plate 11. The sheet may be polished before it is bent, or it may be drawn through the rolls 6, 7 faster than the rolls feed it. The trimming may be done before the bending. The cutter 18 may be shaped to remove metal from the back as well as the sides of the stock.
