395,919. Making razor blades. CLAYTON, C. E. EVERY-, 51, Chancery Lane, London.-(Aktiebolaget Tonsor; Gothenburg, Sweden.) Nov. 2, 1932, No. 30901. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] A method of making the cutting edges of thin safety-razor blades consists in chamfering the blade blank on its two cutting edges by a pressing or stamping operation effected before the usual treatment of hardening, grinding, lapping, or polishing. The blades 15, which mav be in the form of a band with appropriately notched edges are held by fixed guides 23, 24. The upper and lower stamp carriers 13, 14 approach one another, the stamps 18, cylindrically pivoted at 19 moving outwardly at their extremities against resilient insertions 21, 22, to draw out the metal to form the cutting edges 17. Both cutting edges of each blade may be formed simultaneously. In an alternative tool the lower carrier 14 may be fixed to the guides movable. It is stated that subsequent grinding may be entirely dispensed with. Specification 15341/01, [Class 83, Metals, Cutting &c.], is referred to.
