Abstract

1489668 Finishing edges; woven fabrics ELASTIC-BERGER DHG 24 Sept 1975 [28 Feb 1975 13 May 1975] 39154/75 Heading B5K [Also in Divisions A3 and Dl] Woven belting for safety belts comprises a flat belt portion 21 and, integral therewith and along at least one edge thereof, a tubular portion 23, the warp threads in the portion 23 having a higher elongation at break than the warp threads in the portion 21. As shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the tube 23 is integral with the portion 21 and has weft threads 27.1 in common therewith. Preferably, the tube 23 has a weave in which <SP>3</SP>- 1 alternates with <SP>1</SP>- 3 . In one form, Fig. 4 (not shown), the tube 23 has half the weft density of the portion 21, e.g. the portion 21 has a <SP>2</SP>- 2 weave with a single weft insertion per shedding. In an alternative form, Fig. 6 (not shown), the portion 21 and the tube 23 have the same weft density, e.g. the portion 21 has a <SP>4</SP>- 4 weave with double weft insertion per shedding. The warp threads of the tube 23 are preferably finer than those of the portion 21. The warp threads of the tube 23 and the portion 21 are selected so as, in the woven belting, to break under the same breaking load but so that the warp threads in the tube 23 have a higher elongation at break than those in the portion 21. The warp threads of the tube 23 may be shrunk before weaving to a greater extent than the warp threads of the portion 21 or the warp threads, or plies thereof, of the tube 23 may have a higher degree of twist than the warp threads, or the plies thereof, of the portion 21. In an example, the weft threads are formed of a polyester and the warp threads of a polyamide 6, different warp threads being used for the tube 23 and the portion 21.
