Abstract

1487979 Presses S SHIOKAWA 11 Sept 1975 37498/75 Heading B3E A press comprises a pair of spaced parallel C-shaped support frames 6, a member 9 fixed to the lower parts of the frames 6 and mounting on its upper surface a female die 9, a pair of main hydraulic cylinders 4 mounted on the upper parts of the frames 6, a movable member 2 supported above the fixed member 3 by the pistons 7 of the cylinders and mounting on its lower surface a male die 8, an aperture 10 in member 2 adjacent and extending along its lower surface, a row of further hydraulic cylinders 11 in the aperture, and means to connect hydraulic circuits of the main and further cylinders whereby distortion of the workpiece due to uneven load distribution is reduced. Each further cylinder is connected by its own stop valve 19 and a flexible pipe 17 to the main pressure supply line 13. In the inoperative position shown, the rams 12 of the cylinders are fully retracted. The fully extended position of each ram is adjustable. The total areas of the ram pistons equals that of the two pistons 7. When a workpiece shorter than the dies is to be pressed, or particular precision is required, a calculated pressure may be exerted on the movable frame, and all valves 19 closed, to maintain the corrected shape of die 8. Electromagnetic or mechanical valves which can be operated simultaneously may be used.
