Abstract

1487386 Tundishes E BUHRER 17 Sept 1974 40570/74 Addition to 1395393 Heading F4B [Also in Division B3] A casting apparatus comprises a mould 5, a tundish 1 having an outlet 2 offset laterally from the mouth of the tundish, and means 14 for moving the tundish to place it on top of the mould and to remove it therefrom. The tundish is supported in a holder 12 connected with a tilting mechanism which operates to move the tundish from the position shown to a position in which a surface 4 abuts the upper surface 10 of the mould. The tundish may be turned through 180 degrees about a vertical axis (19) so that it discharges into a vessel (21) instead of the mould. A plurality of moulds may be moved stepwise past a plurality of the tundishes.
